  • By focusing on the performances and venues that will present old time country music in the best possible light.

Our Focus

The Heritage Old Time Country Music Association is an independent organization that exists for one reason:

"To ensure that the old time music of the Ottawa River Watershed is preserved for future generations".

It intends to do this through its assumed mandate which is to preserve, perform and perpetuate all facets of this inherited legacy.

There are three types of Valley music upon which the Heritage Old Time Country Music Association will focus.

  • Traditional country
  • Folk ballads
  • Fiddle music

All traditional old time style or classic Canadian country music, particularly from the nineteen thirties to the nineteen sixties, will form the bulk of the Valley country music included under the "heritage" category. Valley songs relating to events from our pioneering era to the present fall into the folk song category. Songs of the working people were and are prompted by victories, accomplishments, work, tragedies or popular sentiments of the day. In the past, they not only provided entertainment but recorded events, thus contributing to the great oral history passed down to us.

Fiddle music will be foremost among the folk instrumentals. It is vital in reviving the square dance and promoting the step dance. Content should be Canadian, preferably tunes from the Ottawa Valley Watershed.

The Heritage Old Time Country Music Association will also promote the step and square dance and an ongoing effort will be made to have square dancing introduced into school systems.
