Website development is underway:

Notes from the Web site:

 November 2007

The board wishes to improve the resources of the HOTCMA by including information on local recording studios within our area that members can contact for projects without involving exorbitant costs. With new technologies available and the use of computers, what took major recording studio equipment can now be done in a person’s computer room. So, if you are aware of persons having small private studios willing to record music perhaps not commercial, that would contribute to saving the old-time music, please contact me or some member of the board with the information and I will add it to our web-site list. Another area of interest is square dancing classes. We are in the process of making a list of those who teach either privately or in schools or at dances  the art of square dancing. You may know of some organization that holds regular dances where novices are welcomed and have members willing to teach others. Again by contacting us you could have their name added to the website for our members as well as others to be able to get involved.

I have one more request from members. Could you please provide us with any sources of old-time music that you are aware of that we can catalogue for the site? This could be other websites, cd, albums, record stores or individuals. Any information would be appreciated.

I’d also like to wish everyone all the best throughout the coming season and the coming year.

  Report on Website Development:

Over the past few months our website: http://www.hotcma.com/

has seen a number of changes. These changes reflect the needs of the HOTCMA members in their efforts to promote the historic musical culture of our region.

At present I have included Photographs taken at HOTCMA events, promotional materials for these events, news of interest to our members, as well as upcoming events in our communities not directly connected to HOTCMA but of interest to our members.

With a website we can distribute information quickly to everyone having a computer connected to the internet. As I have received information, it has been added to the site. I would like to encourage all members to send me news at dann.webb@tlb.sympatico.ca

about events in their area as well as information about past activities with contact information so that we can all participate and enjoy these events. The website is another way that we can all get he word out as to what is happening.

The future changes in the website will reflect what you as a member would like to see. It is a resource tool for your use.

Ideas I’m working on at present:

  1. Sources of the music-
    1.  Where can we get recordings?
    2.  Where can we get words with music to songs?
  2. As a performer how can we distribute the music?
    1. Sell cd’s on the website
    2. Advertise our cd’s on the website providing contact information
  3. A calendar of events:
  4. Notices for ongoing informal Jam sessions where all are welcome to come and play the music regardless of their present skill level. ( these informal sessions are extremely important because our music has been traditionally passed on this way)

We could sell advertising space on the website and make it a lot flashier. I hesitate to do this because its purpose is to give you information, not to sell you something. My feeling is that our members are generally down to earth folks that value substance over flash.

In closing I ask that you as a member share with all of us the news about your community. We are all interested in what you are doing to promote our heritage.

A reminder: Each time you visit a page on the site, to get the latest update of that page you may need to hit the refresh icon.

Thanks
